Can Michael Ealy handle The Breakfast Club Morning Show?
The very quiet, shy but somewhat charming actor hit up Power 105 early this morning to chop it up with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne about his upcoming projects, ‘Think Like A Man’, ‘Common Law’ and ‘Underworld 4′ as well as dodged a few unruly questions like if he got a ‘hard on’ during his romantic scene with Taraji P. Henson and if he still taps Halle Berry and if she’s the best he’s ever had. In regards to Halle, when asked why they broke up and if she’s really crazy, he responded:
Listen, she’s a good friend of mine. I never felt like she was crazy.
And in response to if he still smashes Halle Berry, he responded:
Wow…[smiles]
Other noteworthy parts of the interview, included his thoughts on reality shows and how it’s not contributing to the betterment of society (something he’s passionate about) as well as how he viewed his role in for ‘Colored Girls’. Check out the excerpts and watch the interview below:
Michael Ealy On Reality Shows
What bothers me the most about reality shows is the content itself. I think it’s disturbing and I don’t think it’s contributing to the betterment of society in any way. People like to see train wrecks and it speaks volumes about society as a whole but I’m worried abut the children coming up thinking the way to resolve a problem is to grab somebody’s head and start fighting.Charlamagne: That’s interesting hearing you say that Mr. Ealy because I hated you in “For Colored Girls” when you threw the young child out the window. That contributed to the determent of society because I said to myself brothers aren’t that bad.
Okay, there’s one way to look at it and the other way of looking at it is if you understand exactly what was wrong with him in terms of having Post Traumatic Syndrome, which is something that a lot of our soldiers are coming back with. It’s an epidemic and that’s what happening; they’re coming back, there not getting the help they need and then stuff like this can happen. I understand that it is a movie and it doesn’t necessarily contribute to the betterment of society but I think it also depends how you look at it in the context in which you look at it.The way that these people resolve issues on reality shows is kind of juvenile. They’re grown adults acting like they’re in high school. Think about what there fighting about; what are they fighting about? “For Colored Girls” we were dealing with a much bigger, more relevant and important issue of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.When you read the script did you say “Come on Tyler now, this is a bit extreme”?
It was very hard for me to wrap my head around it but the more I did the research on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that’s when I said, yes because I realized this was a way to kind of show people that war, regardless of whatever else is going on this is some real, real stuff that’s going on. We’re ignoring it because we’re distracted by reality shows, talent competitions, iphones and stuff. We’re really distracted by it but there’s some real, real pain going on in a lot families right now and my goal was to try and bring light to that.Was it easy for you to get out of that dark place one you took yourself there?
No, it wasn’t easy. It was a little bit disturbing but I was able to work with Kimberly Elsie and she was able to help me maintain some sense of sanity because we went to some very dark places. The kids were great; behind the scenes there were moments were you had to just stop and hugs those kids so that they knew that it was acting. We were just playing pretend and stuff because they got freaked out.On if he’d like to get married
I would love to do it technically the right way if possible. Listen, my parents have been together 43 years so I think that has kind of set a certain mold for me.Are your parents ready for some grandkids?
They’re more than ready. I told them that I can give them grandkids….I can literally give them to them [but] I’m not quite ready.
